Burkey. Here is an original photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, in August of 1957. Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5788 and another unit whose number is not recorded. Both are EP-22's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. #5788 was built in May of 1952. They're pulling a passenger train around the Curve and up the Allegheny Mountains to Johnstown and points West. (#20 of 25) |
