GATX Tank Car 26712 |
Description: |
General American Transportation Corp car GATX 26712 was on Conrail at Reading, Pennsylvania wearing a 1075 (liquified petroleum gas) placard. This car had been built by GATC in June 1968 with 6-wheel trucks as a part of the GATX 94650-94706 series for vinyl chloride and butadiene service, but after about 12 years, the entire group (along with car 98238) was modified with 4-wheel trucks for LPG service and renumbered GATX 26701-26758. The change lowered the cars’ LT WT from 113,000 pounds to 106,000, their LD LMT from 281,000 pounds to 157,000 and their gross rail load from 394,00 pounds to 263,000. At least some of these cars operated into the 21st Century, but all were gone by mid-2013. The HRXH stencil indicates this car was last serviced by Hugo Railcar Repair at Hugo, Oklahoma. |
