CB&Q Class XML-5 23223
Title:  CB&Q Class XML-5 23223
Description:  Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad Class XML-5 23223 at Knoxville, Tennessee on an unknown day in April 1980, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. The CB&Q's shops in Havelock, Nebraska built 73 (#23200-23272) of these XML-5 boxcars during November 1964. They were equipped with Keystone underframes, Evans DF-2 bulkheads, 10'0" door openings, and a 4974 cubic foot capacity. All 73 were in assigned service. This particular car is stenciled "Return Emply To Agent CMStP&P...." and I cannot make out the last line, but there was an interchange point between the Burlington and Milwaukee at Crawford, Wisconsin (Prairie Du-Chien), and the stencilling looks similar to that. It is definitely Wisconsin. The door is placarded CLAY PRODUCTS, so it was likely assigned to a clay products manufacturer in Wisconsin. This car still has its roofwalk at this late date.
