CB&Q Class XM-33B 24000
Title:  CB&Q Class XM-33B 24000
Description:  Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad Class XM-33B 24000 at Cicero, Illinois on an unknown day in December 1979, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built at Havelock, Nebraska in 1956 by the CB&Q shops, this was the first of 350 class XM-33B cars numbered 24000-24349. They were delivered in the then-standard mineral red paint scheme with the slogan, "Way of the Zephyrs" painted on one side, and "Everywhere West" on the other. It was stenciled: CAPY 110000 XP, and Note H in the January 1969 Official Railway Equipment Register (ORER) says, "Cars in series 19840 to 19874 and 24000 to 24009 are equipped with moveable bulkheads." It was classed as an XL, AAR Code A220. However, in the October 1971 ORER, Note 8 reads, "Cars numbered 19840 to 19874, 24001, 24002, 24007, and 24009 are equipped with movable bulkheads." Cars 24000 and 24008 were classed XM, AAR Code B207. It is also stenciled: Hide Loading Only, so it likely has been demoted. Note 43 (5) says, "Individual numbers of cars in series 8000 to 8275, 9500 to 9749, 17000 to 19399, 21000 to 22899, 24000 to 24009, 24010 to 24649, 25500 to 25999, 26000 to 26999, 28000 to 28599, 29000 to 37759, 46900 to 46999, 48500 to 48599, 60000 to 62249 and 62500 to 63999 stenciled for hide and tankage loading and differing in A.A.R. Mech. Designation and pounds capacity from other cars in the same series: A.A.R. Mech. Designation XP, capacity 110,000 pounds:" It was last reweighed; SD 3-77. It must have been shopped at some point between roughly between 1968 and 1970, it has lost its roofwalk and is painted in the pre-merger green Burlington paint scheme. This car became BN 215950.
