BNSF 912602 - BNSF 912222 - BNSF 914240 - BNSF 914061 open hoppers |
Description: |
BNSF 912602 - BNSF 912222 - BNSF 914240 - BNSF 914061 showing some of the differences noted throughout the consist of the open hoppers: two different type plates in the first two images and a total of three different top styles - some of the load piled much higher than usual for our area (at least compared to coal cars), then 914240 with cover racks present, and finally 914061 being tarped nearly completely - which is why most of the crew was guessing the strange plates affixed to nearly every car in the consist was some form of environmental/air quality/debris sensor (even if just a filter paper or adhesions pad) to evaluate if coal rail traffic really does have a significant impact on air quality and pollution (my bet is its a whole heckuvalot cleaner and safer than highway/road transportation). (note: when images were being taken, we were pretty sure it was coal in the cars... trick of low light as now it looks more like possibly ballast as the car type would suggest - oops.) |
