Any guess as what train this is? This is a near sunset shot so the train is headed west.

Richard Peters General An absolute classic! Heavyweight cars behind a dashing red and white Geep! 5/18/2008 7:37:15 AM
KEITH GERSHKOW General THIS WAS THE SOO LINE TRAIN TO PORTAL N.D. THANS RUNS TO GLENWOOD, VALLEY CITY, MINOT, AND PORTAL. IT LEFT MO;S AT APPROX. 7:30PM OR 6:30 CCT WIITH A MINOT ARRIVAL AROUND 12:30 THE NEXT DAY. I TOOK THIS TRAIN WHEN I WAS A KID AND LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT. THERE WAS A LUNCH STOP IN VALLEY CITY, ND. 9/22/2008 7:10:00 PM
Ron Moraca General Great photo, Marty! The air tanks on top of the GP9 tell me that the SOO Line DID have passenger units! As witness the heavyweight passenger cars behind it! 3/12/2009 12:52:07 PM
Robert Ball General Wow! Your entire site is the next best thing to a time machine. I am 63 and was around and a train fan when you were shooting (both in Mpls and Chicago) but didn't have a camera myself. These are the shots I wish I had. They bring back great, great memories! Thanks Marty for sharing. 11/13/2009 6:04:51 PM
Tom Dethmers General Marty, I am almost positive that this is train #6 on its last summer of operation to Chicago. It is not the Portal train, as that would have been on the Milwaukee Road and terminated at SPUD. This train would take a right turn at Trout Brook Jct and go to North St. Paul and then on to Chippewa Falls, WI and east. Great picture! 7/17/2021 5:50:54 PM
