Burlington Northern Railroad E9Am 9904 at Union Station in Chicago, Illinois on October 13, 1987, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. It appears not all the BN E9's were created (rebuilt) equal. This one, for instance, has a single HEP generator, or at least, a single exhaust for the HEP. Apparently, some of the E's were HEP equipped before going to Morrison Knudsen for rebuilding. I'm trying to get to the bottom of this. This locomotive was built September 1953 for the CB&Q as E8 9977 (c/n 18319), became BN 9977, and was rebuilt around 1973, returning as 9904, named "Village of Lisle". It was retired in 1992, later becoming IC (now, CN) 101. |
