| Only 3 locomotives of this wheel arrangement (2-4-2-4-2+2-4-2-4-2) were built - one each in 1931, 1932 and 1940. The design was intended to reduce double heading on the 2.75% grades climbed by Gotthard Tunnel freight and passenger trains but it was found more practical to build smaller units which could be MU'd. No.11801 had a one hour horsepower output of 11,100. It is pulling a freight on the Gotttard Tunnel Route. |
