Ready for Stage 2!
Workers inspect the new structure and track alignment at the conclusion of Stage 1 work. Note the height difference between the old and new structures: raising the bridge reduces the amount of ballast necessary to support the track, and therefore reduces the weight on the bridge. The extra height also provides greater underclearance (and less bridge hits) for vehicular traffic like fire trucks and tractor-trailers. During Stage 2, the older bridge to the left will be demolished, and a new bridge will be constructed in the location visible here.
