Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad Pullman 676, named Happy Hollow Club, at Aurora, Illinois on June 20, 1965, photo by Chuck Zeiler. Built by Pullman in December 1929, it was named the Happy Hollow Club. It is listed in the book, "Burlington Passenger Car Roster", by William Glick, as a Pullman Type 1-2-2-2. Jerry LaBoda adds the following in his comment: "The car's not a 1-2-2-2, its a 4 single bedroom - 2 compartment - 1 drawing room - lounge, Pullman plan 3995". It was purchased from Pullman in 1949 and scrapped at Eola, Illinois December 31, 1965. There was a Happy Hollow Club established in Omaha, Nebraska in 1907. I do not know if the car is named for that club. UPDATE - here's some more information from the book, "CB&Q Color Guide to Freight and Passenger Equipment", by Michael J. Spoor: "Built by Pullman in December 1929 to Plan 3995, Lot 6301, and subsequently rebuilt in February 1938, Happy Hollow Club and sister Lancaster Club featured 2 single bedrooms, 2 double bedrooms, 2 compartments, 1 drawing room, and 17 lounge seats. Purchased from Pullman in 1949, Lancaster Club was given #677 making it the highest numbered heavyweight sleeper on the roster. During the 1960's, it served as a substitute dormitory car on the Denver Zephyr." |
