NS 75K heads for the coal mine at Berry, Alabama on a cool clear early mid November morning. This is NS' "Berry Branch" that runs from Parrish, Alabama to Berry, Al. Catching a train here isn't easy as they are typically at night and only 4 trains a day on this branch. Harder is finding a place to park. I had to be dropped and left. Wasn't given much of a favorable eye from the locals in this rural neighborhood. But so it goes sometimes. This line ends at Berry and up until 1996 ran all the way into Columbus, Mississippi. The line was cut between Berry and Belk,Al. The remaining end from Belk to Columbus was sold to the Columbus & Greenville Railway to form the Luxapalila Valley Railroad. |
