Rail Heater at work         
Part of the challenge of installing welded rail in chilly temperatures is that it must be heated to a neutral temperature to provide a reasonable range of forces in the rail at various operating temperatures. Visible below this Teleweld machine is the propane burner heating the rail, in this instance, to about 130 degrees so that the workers in the distance can fit bolts when the rail is the right length.
