| Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad GP35 981 westbound at Naperville, Illinois on August 7, 1965, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. This locomotive was built in December 1963 (c/n 28303) on EMD Order 7668 which originally was an order for GP30's, instead four GP35's were deliverd to the CB&Q. Apparently, EMD was in a hurry to get a 2500 horsepower locomotive in the field to compete with GE's U25B, and produced an extra 250 hp by cranking up the RPM's of the Model 567D3A prime mover. This particular GP35 became BN 2527 and was retired in March 1987. |
