Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad Diner number 195 at the Zephyr Pit in Chicago, Illinois, date and photographer unknown, Chuck Zeiler collection. I bought this slide at a hobby shop, one of many slides tossed in a cardboard box sitting on the counter marked 25 cents each. It is in a Sears slide mount, marked "Silver Restaurant". This car was one of three dining cars ordered in October 1945 by the CB&Q on Budd Job 9624-019 as the Burlington's contribution to the California Zephyr. Delivered in November 1948, it was one of six (eventually seven) diners placed in CZ sevice. The entire ownership of the CB&Q's CZ cars was transferred to Amtrak, with this car becoming Amtrak 8052, and after conversion to HEP became 8504. |
