MILW 991967, Bensenville, Illinois, September 1979, photo by Chuck Zeiler. The truck design was borrowed from the Milwaukee Road's Passenger Department (first appearing on combines built in 1934), as were the ribbed sides. The ribs added strength without adding weight. The Milwaukee Road constucted its first welded steel, bay-window cabooses in 1939, and would eventually built 315 of these through 1951. |
