Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad class O-1-A 4960 at Baraboo, Wisconsin on June 29, 1966, photo by Chuck Zeiler. Not a great photo, however, it depicts a situation no one could have predicted. A new management was in place on the CB&Q, and there was no profitability in steam excursions, so 5632 was sold to Dick Jensen, and 4960 was donated to the Circus World Museum in Baraboo, Wisconsin. Its first assignment was to pull a circus train from Baraboo to Milwaukee, and is seen here laying over at the C&NW yard at Baraboo. I drove up from Chicago to Baraboo with Jerry Appleman and Chris Burritt to photograph what we thought was the last run of 4960. We were not alone, there were other railfans present. We shot a lot of photos under existing light, and then someone had the idea to point our automobile headlights at 4960. Here's one of the results of that collective effort. After Wisconsin, 4960 worked in Virginia and Arizona. |
