CB&Q XAP-2 15004 at Cicero, Illinois on an unknown day in November 1979, photo by Chuck Zeiler. According to the book, CB&Q Color Guide To Freight and Passenger Equipment, by Michael J. Spoor, Thrall delivered 15 Hy-Cube auto parts boxcars to the Burlington in September 1964 which were numbered 15000-15014 and designated XAP-2. They had an inside length of 86'6" and all came with Keystone cushion underframes, roofwalks, and full ladders. All of the cars in this group were dedicated to Ford Motor Company service, which required the double plug door arrangement that provided a 20' door opening. The circle to the left of the reporting marks reads: GSC CTR AT CHGO 8-7-68. It was reweighed CB 8 78. It is also stencilled REPAIR CAR POOL. Looks like it's in need of a coupler repair. This series of cars were assigned BN #'s 395000-395013, apparently one car did not make it. |
