PRR GG1 4846
PRR half GG1 (perhaps it's a G1) 4846 at Wilmington, Delaware, on an unknown day in April 1979, photo by Chuck Zeiler. I happened upon this while passing through Wilmington on a business trip. It appears to have a duct directed towards the track at the rear of the unit, suggesting that perhaps it was used to clear snow in the yard. Although this is in the Conrail timeframe, it is unlikely this unit was on the CR roster. One source indicates that this was once #4846.

Nathan Rentinson General who would do this to a GG1 they made it completely worthless 7/7/2015 9:44:37 PM
Chuck Zeiler General Not necessarily worthless, at least this half of the locomotive survived into the 1980's. As I understand it, this locomotive was involved in a wreck and this is the part that was salvaged, converted into a snow blower for the Wilmington Shops. 7/8/2015 11:13:21 AM
Robert A Boyd General I wouldn't say it was worthless. These might have made useful power for light branch line and commuter runs. Imagine it: decked out is classic 5 stripe colors and pulling a string of Amfleet cars... 3/12/2020 4:09:41 PM
