| Amtrak train 51, the westbound "James Whitcomb Riley" is shown at Cottage Grove, IN on the C&O when this was still operated as a through route. At this time, the Riley had been re-equipped with Amfleet cars and "Pooch" locomotives, but had lost its sleeping car. In October, 1977 this train would be re-named "The Cardinal."
