Browsing the schedule while waiting for my train, I discovered that one of the through trains is named for Franz Anton Ritter von Gerstner, who wrote the first comprehensive study of the American rail industry, "Die innern Communicationen, which he wrote during his travels in 1838-1839, dying before it could be published. His wife eventually published it in 1842, and it was reprinted in English some years ago. He is significant to Czech railway history because he was involved in building the Ceske Budejovice-Linz mainline. |
