CNW 8605
CNW 8605 showing off it's Lightning Stripes as dusk falls on the eve of the UP take over and brings an end to my day and a end to the C&NW. The 24th was the last day of operation of the C&NW. It took place on a Monday and few people were on hand to watch the demise of a proud railroad, which once was the stellar system in the central Midwest. I grew up around the C&NW and it was my railroad it still brings a tear to my eye that it is gone. I would like to thank the C&NW empolyees and yard crews (who still work for the UP) for the Cab Rides and the unrestricted guided tour of the West Chicago Yards, Proviso Yards, Proviso Hump, Proviso Yard Tower, Proviso Yard Nine, and Proviso Diesel Facility.

James Hough General Great picture Richard. I am agree with you, the I loved the C&NW, even though I am from Atlanta, and my Dad started out on the L&N (my #1 love) in '69 (and my Grandfather on the NC&STL) and he is still with CSX today, 41 years later. The C&NW was my "adopted" railroad. I will never forgive the UP. 1/31/2011 8:48:07 PM
