CRI&P GP7 1502, Blue Island, Illinois, September 8, 1984, photo by Chuck Zeiler. Built in June 1952 for the Pittsburgh & Lake Erie (a subsidiary of the New York Central System) as 5724 (c/n 16351) on EMD Order 6369, it was later renumbered P&LE 1513, then either sold or leased to Monongahala Railway (MGA, a joint venture of the PRR and the P&LE) becoming 1502, later leased to North Central Texas Railroad (NCTR, incorporated on May 29, 1980, as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad Company to acquire part of the Mid-Continent Route of the former Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad Company) as 1502, leased to the Rock Island Trustees as 1502, further disposition unknown. By the date of this photo, the Rock Island had been shut down for about four years. Based on the number 2 stencilled on this end of the frame, and the letter F stencilled on the other end, this is the rear of the locomotive, which is consistent with NYC practice. |
