This is a shot of what was all was going on. These are the details as told by a UP MOW worker from Dupo, IL: The BNSF crew aboard this train, a southbound grain train 9GTIGVJ 04, thought they were on a 2 mile long siding. UP northbound train KMNOA 07 was moving north with the tail end over the switch. The BNSF train rounded the curve to find the end of the siding and the UP train occupying it, they tried to stop, but they failed to. After running the red signal they plowed into spine cars and rolled off into the ditch. Grain cars spilled huge piles of the commodity. SSW signals and control point cabinets were knocked off and/or dented up, looks like a couple jobs guys could get fired, but I really don't know. Craig Meador alerted me about this, he got to fly over it, see his photos here: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=185123 . R.J. Corman and Hulcher Emergency Services were called in to help cleanup. |
