A vintage caboose of the Monongahela Railway. Built in June 1949, this was one of a batch of ten cabooses purchased from the International Car and Equipment Company in Chicago. The railroad was formed in 1901 as a joint venture of the Pennsylvania Railroad and Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad. The line was based out of Brownsville and had various branches and extensions serving all the coal and coke mines of the area. It was merged on May 1, 1993 into Conrail. Then in the late 90's Conrail was split into CSX and Norfolk Southern which both still serve the town. Found in the parking lot of Bowman-Nemacolin Castle. |
