The lettering on this locomotive may read North Louisiana & Gulf, but it was actually owned by MidLouisiana Rail, a subsidiary of MidSouth Rail. GP38 number 46 was on a southbound train at Dodson, on the former Rock Island line between Hodge and Winnfield, with five chip hoppers and two tank cars. The locomotive was built in December 1967 as Pennsylvania-Reading Seashores Line 2000, and the extension of the front wall of the cab into the nose was to accomodate a console in the middle of the cab for bi-directional operation. The locomotive became Contrail 7660 in 1976 and NL&G 46 in May 1983, and moved on to the Iowa Interstate as their 600 sometime after this photo was taken. |
