SSW 6681
An estbound Espee train -- probably the HOSOM -- nears the end of its journey from Houston to New Orleans as it approaches Avondale Yard. The motive power was a pair of GP35's and GP49 4604, and the appearance of Cotton Belt 6681 -- the highest numbered SP/SSW GP35 -- makes quite a contrast with that of Southern 2670! The train had 151 cars and SP caboose 1903.

Jerry Sires General Nice shot Mike from my neighbor"hood" in Avondale. I remember one engineer stopping his train by the gym in the background of this image, walking over to me and asking me if I realized where I was. I said yes and he walked back to his train and shoved back into the yard. 7/18/2010 10:23:10 AM
