B&O A-3080 9371
B&O LS-1000 (A-3080) 9371, La Grange, Illinois, November 15, 1964, photo by Chuck Zeiler. Completed by Lima-Hamilton (L-H) in February 1950 on Order 1212-DE as a stock locomotive and sold to the B&O as number 335, B&O class DS-14L, (c/n 9384), it was renumbered to 9371 during early 1957, re-classed to SB-5, and is seen here on the Pielet Brothers (scrap yard) setout track at La Grange, traded to EMD for new B&O SD35's. The B&O ordered ten 1,000 horsepower Lima-Hamilton switchers from L-H stock, original road numbers 330-339, later renumbered to 9366-9375.

The model LS-1000 is not an official L-H designation, but railfan's shorthand for a 1,000 hp L-H switcher. Lima-Hamilton issued specification numbers. I referred to a couple of sources in attempting to identify the model. The book, 'Lima - the History', by Eric Hirsimaki, states, 'On February 20, 1948, orders 1206-DE and 1207-DE were entered in the books. Order 1207-DE was assigned c/n's 9329 - 9348 to cover twenty 1,000 horsepower units built per specification A-3080.' This is the model designation that the Wikipedia and Yard Limit web sites use. A total of 38 A-3080 switchers were built. On November 28, 1949, L-H increased the horsepower to 1,200 by changing the prime mover fuel rack settings, and built ten (later increased to 15) 1,200 hp switchers for stock on Specification A-3170.
