| Just east of the depot at Schriever, Louisiana the main line of the SUNSET ROUTE crosses over Bayou Terrebonne and under Louisiana Highway 20. The bayou bridge and overhead signal were destroyed on 7 February 1984, when four locomotives and 50 cars on eastbound train HOSBY-HOSOY derailed here. The southbound lanes of the highway bridge ended up on top of the train's second car. Rail service was restored in three days by replacing the bayou bridge with three large culverts. Fixing the highway bridge took a little longer! |
