Precision National Corporation SD24 6337 on the Burlington Northern at Clyde, Illinois, October 1979, photo by Chuck Zeiler. This locomotive was built in November 1959 as Southern Railway SD24 2518 (c/n 25614) on EMD Order 5606 and renumbered by the Southern during 1972 to 6337. It was sold to PNC during January 1978 and put into PNC's lease pool as PNC 6337. It spent some time on the BN in 1979, and sometime between October 1979 and June 1980 it was rebuilt by Morrison Knudsen into an 1800 horsepower SD18 by removing the turbocharger and dynamic brakes, and of course, the basic overhaul. It returned to PNC numbered 1837 and was leased to the BN for some time during 1980. It then was leased to the C&NW, and ultimately purchased by that road on March 31, 1982 and given road number 6638. |
