Old habits  Contributor's Pick!
You gotta be real careful along the right of way and I find my old Pennsy brakeman instincts servd me well over the years insofar as keeping alert. The old electric motors were silent and could creep up on you with little warning; and newer diesels are so well muffled that they may also sneak up upon one. Traffic moves briskly and relatively silently through the narrows between Mifflin and Lewistown. The slope of Shade*Mountain has allowed the setting sun to illuminate the depths of the gorge at Hawstone as NS 7500 races west with empty hoppers - scattering the leaves.
