Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad Diner class DA-5 176 at the 14th Street Coach Yard in Chicago, Illinois on an unknown day in May 1965, photographer unknown, Chuck Zeiler slide collection. I came across this slide for 25 cents in a Sears mount at a hobby shop. Number 176 was built by the American Car & Foundry in April 1917. This is the aisle side passing the kitchen where the small windows are. The CB&Q owned eight class DA-5 diners, two (#'s 172 and 176) had a small lounge at the far end (the last two windows). It was repainted silver (aluminum) and used as protection for Zephyrs, although it would only be suitable for secondary trains and fantrips by this photo date. This particular car was sold for scrap to Northwestern Steel & Wire in January 1967. |
