Logan Geigner General This is the old Peoria and Eastern Railroad right-of-way last used by Conrail before the split up to CSX and NS. This route went to NS who didn't need it since they have their old piecemeal route from Decatur to Peoria via the Wabash and old Nickel Plate route also through Bloomington. The only reason this line was originally railbanked was in case a big grain distribution center located along the route, which never materialized. The railroad was also receiving lease payments for a fiber optic line which was burried under or rather, along the right-of-way. I have a buddy who owns a shop building adjacent to the old P&E in Bloomington, and it has recently been offiially abandoned. There is a working segment left between Mansfield and Champaign-Urbana, but the line East of Urbana through Danville to Crawfordsville, IN is totally ripped up (except for a small piece of Hillery Yard in Danville). This segment will most likely get scrapped/salvaged once the final papers are signed on the aba 4/3/2018 7:15:32 PM
