Amtrak SSB1200 564 at 18th Street in Chicago, Illinois on December 21, 1987, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Amtrak 564 (2nd) was built in May 1953 as AT&SF SW9 2433, it was renumbered to 1433 then rebuilt at San Bernardino, California to 1233 on November 30, 1978; thus the SSB1200 (Switcher San Bernardino 1200 horsepower) designation. It (and some more SSB's and some CF7's) was traded to Amtrak for some SDP40F's. The Wheel Truing Shop in under construction in the background. |
