Chicago & North Western Railway RS27 901 at Council Bluffs, Iowa on May 13, 1962, Kodachrome by Lou Schmitz, Chuck Zeiler collection. The C&NW acquired four RS27's, this one built by Alco in March 1962 (c/n 83602), returned to Alco after four years as credit toward C425's. I'll bet there's an Alco salesman story to go with this deal. This unit (and the other three returned C&NW RS27's) were repainted by Alco and put into a lease fleet, eventually sold to Precision National which leased this unit to the CP, then sold the 901 to the GB&W in May 1976. It went to WC in September 1987, then to Minnesota Commercial in 1993. |
