Amtrak 695 was built by American Car & Foundry as New York Central end-door baggage car 9105. It was one of 100 such cars (9100-9199) built under ACF Lot. 2910 in 1946-47. These cars retained their same numbers under Penn Central, and the 9105 became Amtrak 1126 in 1976. Twenty of these cars went to Amtrak in 1974 and were assigned numbers 1180-1199, while an additional 46 were sold in 1976 and were suppose to become baggage cars 1120-1146 and work cars 17013-17031. The 1126 was one of four rebuilt into power cars 693-696 in 1977, which enabled locomotives without head-end power to haul Amfleet cars until enough HEP engines were available. (approximate month) |
