Diner-tavern 8338 was originally one of eighteen 44-seat dining cars built by Budd in 1948 as New York Central 450-467. This car was originally 466 and then Penn Central 4566. Five of the cars were retired before the PC merger in 1968, but the remaining 13 cars went into the PC 4550-4566 series. Amtrak purchased 10 of the cars in 1973 and remodeled them with a 20-seat lounge and 24 dining seats as the 8330-8339. The 8338 became HDRITAGE FLEET diner 8514. (approximate month) |
