I'm glad to see a photo of an old CEI engine. I grew up watching these things lug the gscx hoppers out of the Powhatan Coal fields for years.

I think the lettering was an afterthought. I was told they were delivered without lettering, and Conrail added the "CE" (notice it's in a Conrail font and color) so the units could be properly ID'd.
