Dormitory/counter/diner 8116 was originally Santa Fe 1575, one of 12 cars (1566-1577) built by Pullman-Standard between June and August 1950 with a 13-seat lunch counter and 20 dining seats. In 1954 nine of the cars (1569-1577) were remodeled with the addition of a crew dormitory area, which reduced the dining area to just eight seats. The unmodified cars were retired in 1968, but the other cars became Amtrak 8110-8118. The 8116 was photographed on the PANAMA LIMITED and was retired in 1977. |
