Coach-lounge 3851 was built by Pullman-Standard in 1948 as New Haven 36-seat parlor car 317 DANBURY. It was one of 25 Plan W6788 cars (300-324) in Lot No. W46611. Ten of the cars were remodeled into 72-seat coaches 7200-7209 in 1964, losing their names, and were subsequently Penn Central 3190-3199. The 3191 was wrecked in 1971, but the other nine cars became Amtrak 7251-7259. Amtrak subsequently rebuilt two of these cars with 56 coach seats and a 12-seat lounge, and renumbered them 3850 and 3851. The 3851 was previously Amtrak 7257, and before that PC 3197 and NH 7207; and was retied in 1976. (approximate date) |
