Boston & Maine 1902 was one of 35 milk cars (1900-1934) received from General American Transportation in 1957. The first fifteen (1900-1914) were 4-door cars with mechanical refrigeration and were built for transporting bottled milk, while the other twenty (1915-1934) were 2-door cars built for transporting milk cans covered with ice. Their ARR Mechanical Designation was BM, so they were considered passenger cars and were listed in THE OFFICIAL REGISTER OF PASSENGER TRAIN EQUIPMENT. After milk service ended in 1964, these cars were used for company storage. |
