It is all about applying the right force on exactly the right vector. The real goal here isn't so much to get the tie under the track but to do it with out messing up the ballast right under the tie. That way the tie doesn't need as much attention when the tamper comes alon], AND doesn't need to be retamped after 6 or 8 trains have passed over the track. /DL |
