This photograph was taken in Micaville, NC about 4 miles from Burnsville. The Yancey Railroad had a branch to Bowditch which diverged from the 'mainline' here.

I found out some information about this particular locomotive inside an old 1974 issue of Model Railroader. No. 40 was acquired in 1963. The 65-Ton, 420-horsepower diesel unit came from the U.S. Navy.
