This was called the "Oh" board. At Bittinger westbound WM trains would pickup. Before computers told the train dispatcher the length of trains, when the caboose passed by this spot, the flagman hollered "Oh board" and the conductor would look to see what the sign closest to him would say. It would be in increments of ten 40 foot cars. He would call the train dispatcher or the operator at Hanover and give this information to them so the train dispatcher knew how big the train was and where it would fit when meeting any eastbound trains.
