MP GP35M 2008  Contributor's Pick!       
An MP unit with a different history. Built as GP35 630 in 1965, rebuilt at Little Rock in 1973 without a turbocharger, becoming functionally a GP38, as MP 2007, then 2008, later 2600 when other of its type were similarly modified. It's shown in the ATSF yard in Clovis after delivering the overnight train from Ft Worth.

Mark Carron General This locomotive never ran on the Mopac as 2007. Apparently that number was inserted into its number boards during its rebuild. There is a J. Harlen Wilson picture of this unit on page 9 of X2200 South, Issue 44 dated 3/26/74. The picture was taken before its rebuild was complete and it at that time it was numbered 2008. 6/3/2022 7:19:56 PM

Mark Carron General The above comment was apparently submitted (Twice???) before I completed and grammar checked it. Here is the remainder of my comment: Beside the internal changes to this unit, the obvious external changes were the switch to Blomberg M trucks (which were changed back to Blomberg B's when it went to the Kiamichi), the non-turbo exhaust stacks and the GP38 style radiator fans. This was the only MP GP35m that did not received paper air filters (Note: They were later added by the Kiamichi). The next 16 MP GP35m rebuilds were done from mid-1974 to mid-1978. They all retained their 2500 series numbers after the rebuilds and pictures of them as 2500's can be found on the internet. Most retained their Blomberg B trucks but all received paper air filters. Also, their GP35 fan layout was retained. All, including 2008, were renumbered (in numerical order) into the 2600 series in mid-1978, per a Mopac article in X2200, Issue 64, Page 8. Only one GP35 was rebuilt to a GP35m after that date. 6/3/2022 7:43:38 PM
