Odd Coupler Knuckle on IAIS 716
In over forty years of railfanning, I've seen a few strange things ... And this is the latest. The rear coupler on Iowa Interstate GP38-2 716 (ex-LLPX 2328, ex-UP 452, ex-UP 1952, ex-EMDX 817, ex-CR 8017, nee-PC 8017) has a homemade knuckle, created from a length of rectangular tubing. I assume that it was meant for some duty other than coupling to another coupler. Photo taken on railroad property with permission and while wearing required safety gear (PPE).
