Rock Island flat car 591103
An odd one- ROCX flat car stored in the Carrie Ave yard after road shut-down. One of very few cars marked for Rock Island Improvement Co during the short period between bankruptcy and liquidation. Painted in very late "Rock" light blue.

Charles Robinson General This is a very interesting shot. If you look closely, the reporting marks are actually "ROCX", for the "Rock Island Improvement Company" (series 591101-591105), as listed on page 998 in the January, 1980 ORER. It is also interesting to note the the numbers are not in the usual "ROCK" font. Also, instead of using just "ROCX" for the slogan, as on the open top hoppers, it jus says "THE ROCK". The friction bearing trucks are a nice touch, as well. :) 8/30/2013 12:03:07 PM
Rick Morgan General Thanks for pointing out the ROCX reporting mark; the data has been corrected. 9/2/2013 7:27:34 AM
