Amtrak train 572, a Los Angeles to San Diego "Pacific Surfliner," crosses the Los Angeles River at Redondo Junction on August 18th, 2013. This train set is made up of older Amfleet coaches and a Horizon Fleet café car. This high bridge was built when the Alameda Corridor project was constructed in the early 2000s, and creates a grade separation allowing for smoother traffic flow between Amtrak and Metrolink passenger trains and the BNSF Railway and Union Pacific freights heading south to the country's busiest container ports in Los Angeles and Long Beach. |
