Michigan State University has their own coal power plant to provide power to the University campus. All of their coal is delivered by CSX, and sometimes a dedicated unit train is run to the plant from Kentecky coal mines. Once the coal is delivered, this little GE switcher does the work of positioning the cars for unloading. Most railfans who visit the East Lansing have no idea that is here, and I who live in this town have even taken this loco for granted. I think this is a 44 Tonner, but I've been told by several people that it is a 45. If anyone knows for sure, please comment here. UPDATE: I've learned through an Email that this is a 45 Tonner. |
