LLPX 2288 waits out the weekend with a UP GP15-1 at Union Pacific's Browder Yard in West Dallas. Delivered to Penn Central as PC 8018 GP38-2 in August 1972, this Geep would enter Conrail as CR 8018 in April 1976 working for the line until July 15, 1987 when it was returned to Electro-Motive upon lease termination. With 100 former Penn Central GP38-2s on their hands, Electro-Motive placed the group up for lease with this one working as EMDX 818 in patched Conrail Premier Blue sporting EMD and GM logos. In May 1997 Union Pacific would lease 61 GP38-2s from Locomotive Leasing Partners with this unit arriving in full Union Pacific dress as UP 1953 on September 23, 1997. A second renumbering occurred on February 5, 2001 becoming UP 453. keeping this number until Union Pacific retirement on April 28, 2003. This unit was returned to the Locomotive Leasing Partners roster becoming LLPX 2288 but kept Union Pacific colors but continued to work on UP rails. With LLPX now part of GATX, another repaint and renumbering will be coming soon to this Geep. |
