Looking like just another P42DC, this is actually one of twenty P40DCs delivered new to Amtrak in 1993 as an AMD-103 by General Electric. Later Amtrak took delivery of 120 P42DC which look nearly identical to the first twenty P40DCs but feature an uprated 4,250HP prime mover and the P40DCs were sidelined. Once Amtrak received funding, 15 of the 20 stored P40DCs were rebuilt and returned to service alongside the P42DC fleet with no change into external appearance. The main spotting feature is the 800 series road number and a small TIGER decal below the cab window denoting the grant used to fund rebuilding.
